Nittany Dark is packaging designed for Penn State University Berkey Creamery's new craft chocolate. It features illustrations of Penn State's iconic buildings and landmarks, highlighting the Berkey Creamery as the center of campus life. The packaging's style and story capture the spirit of alumni and students.
The Process
Designing Nittany Dark involved stakeholder meetings, thorough audience research (Penn State students, professors, and alumni), and research on the history of Penn State's Berkey Creamery.
The packaging draws inspiration from Penn State's eclectic architecture and is designed to evoke a feeling of nostalgia and University pride in the audience. At the same time, the organic linework and typography highlight the chocolate's handmade nature, paying homage to Berkey Creamery's tradition of crafting homemade products.
